Dedicated to the memory of Stephen Moles

In Loving Memory of Capt. Stephen Moles
Please note: The family kindly requests donations to the MND Association in lieu of flowers.

This page is a tribute to Capt. Stephen Moles—husband, father of five, grandfather, and an unforgettable friend to so many. He was deeply loved and will be forever missed.

Steve was a man on a mission—always. Whatever he set his mind to, he achieved. He started out in his mentor Bill’s bike shop, where he fell in love with motorcycles. Later, he became a telephone engineer with BT, but he always had a fascination with flight. Determined to turn passion into profession, he trained as a pilot and eventually became a top instructor at Headcorn Aerodrome, before going on to build a career as an airline pilot. His work took him across the world, from the UK to Vietnam, with 30+ years of doing what he loved.

When he wasn’t flying, he was riding—often off to some far-flung place on one of his many beloved motorbikes. If he wasn’t on the move, he was planning his next trip, usually over a coffee at his favourite jungle café. Sitting still was never his strong suit.

Steve’s love of adventure extended to his hobbies. As a young man, he built and flew control-line model planes, later creating intricate landscapes for his train sets. His garage was a shrine to his mechanical obsessions, filled with classic cars and motorbikes in various states of (dis)repair. In fact, by the time he passed, he had accumulated no fewer than 27 classic motorbikes and 2 classic cars - “They’re better than money in the bank”.

Although Steve didn’t have the time he thought he would to complete all of those projects, he did spend his final years at home in the UK, with his family. In the two years he was back, he made some great friends, squeezed in some more adventures, and joined the Catholic Church. Though it wasn’t the retirement he planned, he made the most of it—and, true to form, he enjoyed the journey.

During his final years, the MND Association provided invaluable support to Steve and our family. If you’d like to honour his memory, a donation to this incredible organisation would mean the world to us.

Thank you for being part of his life and ours. We hope to see you at the funeral and/or the wake.

Please join us after the service for a drink at Steve's local. Everybody is welcome. The family will meet you there after the private committal service at the Crematorium.
Address: The Hollington Oak, 210 Wishing Tree Road, Saint Leonards-on-sea, TN38 9LB.
